Civil liberties only protect "criminals, terrorists and pedophiles"

Have you seen the London Olympic mascots? One of these Orwellian freaks features is this series of posters highlighting the ever-encroaching surveillance state in the UK (and globally).

This is the police state

As the opening ceremony spectacle rolled out, UK police were terrorising cyclists on a Critical Mass bicycle ride in London.

This video is here with these posters as the copstar is a kindred spirit with the freak mascots. He's clearly loving the Olympic atmosphere.

This is the surveillance state

UK Home Secretary Theresa May has criticised opponents of the new warrantless Internet spying bill as “conspiracy theorists”. She then proposed that the civil liberties affected only protect "criminals, terrorists and pedophiles" anyway.

So here's the poster series... download and use freely... especially in London (watch your back!).

Inspire a Generation: Assange, WikiLeaks & Olympics

Ecuadorian Embassy in London, August 2012

A poster and flyer for the London Corporate Olympics! Content and inspiration from UK Friends of WikiLeaks. Follow @UKFoWL on twitter for updates.

From their site:

For 4 weeks the world will be watching London as the 2012 Olympics games are played. Global state heads will visit the capital, thousands will be milling around London, the media will be ever present.

With transport making it harder for those outside of the city to join the vigil at the Ecuador embassy and with the UK attention on the games potentially diverting the worlds attention there are some fears that the Olympics will act as a smokescreen, leaving Julian Assange vulnerable to political attack.

It would not take much however to turn this into an opportunity to publicize and promote WikiLeaks.
For 4 weeks the UK have the worlds attention. The official Olympic slogan is ‘inspire a generation’ yet this is exactly what Julian Assange has done, and we know where that has got him….

Print off these posters/plackards/flyers and help keep the world watching Julian Assange:

Credit card donations to WikiLeaks: "Let them shut it down"

From the WikiLeaks Press Release: WikiLeaks opens path through banking siege. Donations open. August 18 2012

"After almost two years of fighting an unlawful banking blockade by U.S financial giants VISA and MasterCard, WikiLeaks has announced it is back open for donations.

After WikiLeaks' publications revealing U.S. war crimes and statecraft in 2010, U.S. financial institutions erected a banking blockade against WikiLeaks wholly outside of any judicial or administrative process. The blockade came during a time of substantial economic growth for WikiLeaks but blocked over 95% of donations, costing the organization in excess of US$20M...

WikiLeaks is launching a new payment gateway designed to work around the blockade.

The French credit card system, Carte Bleue, is coupled with the VISA/Mastercard system globally. VISA and Mastercard are contractually barred from directly cutting off merchants through the Carte Bleue system. The French non-profit FDNN (Fund for the Defense of Net Neutrality- Fonds de Défense de la Net Neutralité), has set up a Carte Bleue fund for WikiLeaks.

"Let them demonstrate to the world once again their corrupt pandering to Washington"

WikiLeaks advises all global supporters to make use of this avenue immediately before VISA/MasterCard attempts to shut it down.

However, WikiLeaks and FDNN are ready for the fight. Julian Assange, WikiLeaks founder said "We beat them in Iceland and, by god, we'll beat them in France as well. Let them shut it down. Let them demonstrate to the world once again their corrupt pandering to Washington. We're waiting. Our lawyers are waiting. The whole world is waiting. Do it."

In order to effectively continue its mission, WikiLeaks must raise a minimum of EUR 1M immediately

WikiLeaks is pursuing several actions against the blockade.

Last week, WikiLeaks won a landmark lawsuit against VISA Iceland (Valitor). In July 2011 WikiLeaks opened a path through the blockade, when VISA-Valitor agreed to process payments to WikiLeaks through the Icelandic payment gateway, Datacell. Soon afterwards, VISA-Valitor blocked donations and ended its relationship with Datacell, in violation of its contractual obligations. Delivering its judgment last week, the Icelandic court in Reykjavík ruled that the donation gateway should be reopened by July 26, otherwise VISA-Valitor will be penalized with a fine of 800 000 ISK daily..."

So, who is SomersetBean?

Well, for those who may be interested, here's my Friends of WikiLeaks profile. I'm really just blogging it to encourage you to LOG IN if you haven't since you joined. You need to do this to activate your account and get in touch with your new contacts.

These are not SomersetBeans... but they could be

Working from home just outside Eudlo on the Sunshine Coast as a freelance graphic designer, I'm offering free designs for WikiLeaks, Julian Assange and Bradley Manning support projects.

New technologies have brought libertarian ideals back into the public discourse. My ideal is to see this assisting the evolution of the planet's human population beyond politics, religion, dogma, greed, anger. John Lennon Imagine etc. I do, however, endeavour to temper my potentially unrealistic idealism with the realism of what is happening here and now. I'm hoping meeting with others who have similar motivations can help focus and energise us to act effectively for the positive changes we imagine.

Although I'm wary of being apocalyptic and of seeing things in black and white, humanity does seem poised at a crossroads - anger or love, greed or compassion, fascism or liberation. Whatever the reality is, and whatever the future may bring, I'm certain of one thing - the need to act compassionately here and now and to defend others under attack as a result of their commitment to love, kindness, freedom, justice... whatever terms one likes to use.

I've been an anarchist, a communist, a buddhist, an athiest, and a few more - now it's just me! I'm @somersetbean on twitter and at The Bean Blog ...Looking forward to.... whatever we create!

The Power of... Buttons & Badges!

Badge designs:

Asylum for Assange badge
More Assange badges
Bradley Manning badges
WikiLeaks supporters badges
SAWC & WACA badges

Start a conversation

I knew Bess at my local country Post Office was rather conservative and assumed she would probably frown upon WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. Well I was proven wrong when I walked in wearing my WikiLeaks heart gear and it inspired supportive comments from her and a really positive conversation!

Raise funds

Badges "went like hotcakes" at the recent Sydney Rally for Assange and WikiLeaks I'm informed. They churned out their own with a badge machine.

This one ended up on a briefcase...

Send in your pics and I'll post your creations here!

I think therefore I invoke: David House at the WikiLeaks Grand Jury

David House, one of the seven people associated with WikiLeaks being investigated by the Grand Jury in the US, has released his notes from his appearance. This is the 'WikiLeaks' Grand Jury of which the Australian government denies any knowledge. His notes are also at the WikiLeaks Australian Citizens Alliance site.

Thanks to for the request and for the genius behind "I think therefore I invoke"!

More Julians and less Julias: Sydney Rally for Assange & WikiLeaks: July 15

Julian debates Julia this Sunday 15 July in Sydney.

Well he would if he could. Assange supporters will be there to represent him. Just happens the NSW State ALP conference coincides with the Rally for Assange and Wikileaks which starts 1pm outside the Town Hall.

Bring a sign, a clear throat and some noise makers (drums, tambourine etc). Wear a mask, make and distibute badges, print and paste posters.
See you there, Julia

Assange: 'Not Running, Fighting' series revisited

Much of the mainstream media is deliberately missing the point... and the facts. Julian Assange is not running from anything, he's fighting for justice. And, as always, fighting the "opponents of love"

The facts in this poster series are thanks to Julian's inspirational mum, Christine Assange. Facts source WLcentral.

I've revisited these posters and added a link for further info, with the slogan "Asylum for Assange: Freedom to Publish". These are web images: contact me for hi-res files for quality printing.

UPDATE 1 August 2012 Please note that the Swedish extradition poster contained an innacuracy and has been ammended from "Sweden has never turned down an extradition request from the USA" to "Sweden has not turned down any extradition request from the US since 2000".

The following posters were also popular when initially released... now with the web link added...
